The propulsion system 25 comprises a transmission 29, configured to provide a power output, and at least one first energy conversion machine 27. The propulsion system also comprises at least one power unit 26 operable to selectively drive the transmission and/or the at least one first energy conversion machine. At least one second energy conversion machine 28, operable to selectively drive or be driven by the transmission, is also provided. A power transfer arrangement 37 is provided for transferring power between the first and second energy conversion machines. A marine propulsion system incorporating a planetary gearbox and a propulsion system with first and second power units are also disclosed. |
