Aircraft signal transmission comprising transmitted data has false information introduced into it so that the transmitted data includes true and false aircraft position and movement information. Thus an avionics system may include an automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) transponder 20 to generate ADS-B Out messages 21 and an airborne ATC processor 25 which causes the transponder to transmit authorised bogus ADS-B Out messages 24 which are recognized as false only by authorized users 22. The bogus flight trajectory may be generated so as not to conflict with trajectories of neighbouring aircraft. The airborne processor may also detect maliciously spoofed ADS-B Out messages 28. Thus misuse of ADS-B Out information for malicious cyber or physical attack is prevented. |
