PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freezing device for cells, capable of minimizing damage to cells, attaining a large capacity using compact facilities, and greatly improving the facility operation ratio. SOLUTION: The device includes a cooling chamber 5, and a local cooling means to locally cool and inoculate a frozen sample 9 in the cooling chamber 5. The local cooling means includes the cooling side 16 of a Peltier device 7. The device also includes a heat transmission member 6 to transmit cold to the exhaust heat side 17 of the Peltier device 7, and transmit cold to the cooling chamber 5 so as to cool both the exhaust heat side 17 of the Peltier device 7 and the cooling chamber 5. Since ice seeding is performed in the cooling chamber 5, ice seeding can be more securely and efficiently performed, without introducing outside air, than in a conventional ice seeding performing method, and damage to cells due to overcooling can be minimized while they are frozen. Cooling structure is greatly simplified, and an exhaust heat processing device such as a fan is unnecessary. The equipment can be more compact, and a large capacity can be provided.
