PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making out a metal design mock-up of an exterior case of a cellular phone or the like and to provide the metal design mock-up by the method. SOLUTION: The method of making out the metal design mock-up has the steps of: molding a plastic base material as a lower mold 1 of the metal design mock-up 4; smoothing at least the surface 11 of the lower mold 1 in the metal design mock-up 4 side; applying a conductive coating 2 onto the surface 110 subjected to the smoothing treatment of the smoothed lower mold 11, by using any of vapor deposition, ion-plating, electroless plating and sputtering; applying a metal electroplating layer 3 on the surface of the conductive coating 2 with 200-800μm thickness; and making out the metal design mock-up 4 by releasing the integrated conductive coating 2 and the metal electroplating layer 3 from the lower mold 1.
