PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a triarylmethane-based dye which is not only electrochemically and thermally stable but also excellent in durability to light, has good solubility in both organic solvents and resins, and further has high NMP (N-methylpyrrolidone) resistance. SOLUTION: The triarylmethane-based dye is expressed by general formula (I); (wherein, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may have a substituent or an aryl group which may have a substituent; any of R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>, and R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>may be bonded to form a part of a ring structure or a heterocyclic ring structure; X denotes a bivalent hydrocarbon group; Y denotes an alkyl group in which at least a part of a hydrogen atom may be substituted with a fluorine atom; and R<SP POS="POST">7</SP>denotes an alkyl group).
