[Class 52 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] To prevent unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, the driver's seat or the back, or other part thereof, is tiltable or otherwise shiftable into close proximity to the steering handwheel to prevent the seat being occupied, a lockcontrolled spring-actuated catch being provided to maintain the position. The seat 2, Fig. 1, is adapted to be slid forward to the position indicated in full lines and its back 2<a> to be tilted forward about pivots 3<c> against the steering wheel 1, the positions being maintained by a pivoted stay 3 which passes through a slot in the floor 5 and is formed with teeth or notches 3<b> adapted to be engaged by a spring- pressed slidable catch 9 enclosed in a casing 8. Release is effected by retracting the catch 9 by manipulation of a key-operated lock 15 to which the catch is connected by Bowden mechanism 12, 13, enclosed in a secondary casing 8<b>. A slidable plate 4, through which the stay 3 passes, marks the floor slot.
