PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device with reduced vehicle-lateral dimension and reduced number of parts, configured to prevent a column from moving in telescopic and tilt directions upon a secondary collision, while facilitating design of an impact absorbing mechanism. SOLUTION: Upon a vehicle collision, first rockable friction plates 5, 5 are compressed and bent between a pin 51 and a clamping rod 4, to increase a clamping axial force of a clamping rod 4, thereby increasing a clamping force for clamping a distance bracket 13 to a body attachment bracket 3. An outer column 11 does not start moving forward from the bracket 3 against the clamping force, due to a forward impact load upon a secondary collision. The body attachment bracket 3 is smoothly detached from the body by a predetermined collapse load, thereby stabilizing impact absorbing performance. COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
