PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust variations of a valve lift amount without changing parts and a shim constituting a variable valve system, to facilitate an adjusting operation of the valve lift amount, and to simplify the structure of the whole variable valve system. SOLUTION: In the variable valve system of the internal combustion engine, the inside gear of the power transmitting mechanism is rotatably arranged in the outer periphery of the eccentric shaft of a control shaft integrally with a cam follower, the outside gear of the power transmitting mechanism is rotatably arranged in the outer periphery of the body shaft of the control shaft separately from the oscillating cam, the outside gear and the oscillating cam are coupled by the position adjusting mechanism capable of changing the relative phase in the rotational direction around the control shaft.
