[Class 53] Accumulator plates which have been pasted with lead peroxide are treated with a solution of oxalic acid or other reagent which will react with lead peroxide to liberate carbon dioxide. The reagent may be so chosen that on immersion in dilute sulphuric acid after the treatment, a second evolution of carbon dioxide is produced. The treatment is stated to increase the binding power of the paste and to render it porous. Specification 401,281 is referred to. The Provisional Specification states that instead of oxalic acid, formic acid, lactic acid, or hydrochloric acid may be used. An alternative process consists in treating the plates with a solution of sodium carbonate and then with sulphuric acid. |
