The invention relates to a document (1) comprising a coat layer (12). In order to adjust the surface property of the coat layer (12) in a simple and inexpensive manner and to optimize the properties of the coat layer (12) with a view to the usage properties, a cover film (13, 32) is used during the production of the document. The cover film is applied to the coat layer before the coat layer is cured, and is removed after curing. The invention allows inter alia the production of glossy, matted haptically perceptible surfaces.
