PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite metal foil and a method for manufacturing the same, the composite metal foil being easily peeled off after a heating/compression step even if an acidic plating bath is used and giving the base material-side of a printed wiring board with little residue. SOLUTION: A diffusion prevention layer 3 for preventing metal diffusion to a metal atom composing a carrier 2, a release layer 4 made of a metal layer formed by a physical deposition method, and a transfer layer 5 made of a metal layer formed by a plating method are provided on the surface of the carrier 2 made of the metal foil.
