Antenna structure with split-feed antenna element and coupled parasitic grounding element

Antenna structures of electronic devices and methods of operating the electronic devices with the antenna structures are described. One apparatus includes a RF feed coupled to a split-feed antenna element of an antenna structure. The antenna structure also includes a parasitic grounding element coupled to a ground plane. The split-feed antenna element is configured to operate as a feeding structure to the parasitic grounding element that is not conductively connected to the RF feed.

1. An electronic device comprising:
a radio frequency (RF) feed; an antenna structure coupled to the RF feed and a ground plane, wherein the antenna structure comprises:
a split-feed antenna element coupled to the RF feed, wherein the split-feed antenna element comprises a first folded arm and a second folded arm, wherein the second folded arm is disposed within an area defined by at least a portion of the first folded arm;a two-arm grounding strip coupled to a ground plane, wherein the split-feed antenna element is configured to operate as a feeding structure to the two-arm grounding strip that is not conductively connected to the RF feed; anda third folded arm coupled to a distal end of the two-arm grounding strip.
