In the present invention, provided are a device and a method for predicting birth weight of a neonate and a ponderal index by detecting a certain gene from cord blood. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of adiponectin gene is determined in the cord blood sample. The determined SNP is allowed to predict the birth weight or the ponderal index of neonates and is used in a device and a method for predicting the size of infants at birth with genes related to polymorphism such as ADIPOQ rs182052 or rs 2241766.
