PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine that a front end or a rear end of a document sheet reaches a reading position while using image data which are read at the reading position.SOLUTION: In an image reading apparatus 1, when setting a front end detection count criterion value to be used for determining that a front end of a document sheet reaches a reading position and a rear end detection count criterion value to be used for determining that a rear end of the document sheet reaches the reading position, reference data such as the number of edge pixels in read image data are calculated, the read image data being obtained by reading a document pressing member before feeding the document sheet to the reading position. The reference data are compared with criterion data (S54, S56 and S62). In the case where the reference data and the criterion data are not matched within a predetermined range, the front end detection count criterion value and the rear end detection count criterion value are set to multiple values (S60 and S64) and while using the set front end detection count criterion value or rear end detection count criterion value, the front end or the rear end of the document sheet is determined. |
