PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hydrophobic inorganic oxide particles obtained by surface-treating inorganic oxide particles synthesized by a sol-gel process, and having a small primary particle diameter and a narrow particle size distribution width, which do not strongly agglomerate and are excellent in disintegration property and extremely satisfactory in dispersibility into resin, and a method of simply and easily producing the particles.SOLUTION: The hydrophobic inorganic oxide particles have a median diameter of the particles of 0.05-1.5 μm by a laser diffraction and scattering particle size distribution measurement method, a variation coefficient of not greater than 35%, and satisfy the following requirements (1)-(2). (1) The hydrophobicity degree is 40-70 vol%. (2) The particle amount remaining on a sieve after placing 10 g of the hydrophobic inorganic oxide particles powder on the sieve having a sieve opening of 45 μm (a sieve having a diameter of 75 mm in accordance with JIS Z8801), and vibrating up and down for 60 sec by 1 mm of amplitude and 60 Hz of frequency is not greater than 40 mass%; agglomerated particle amount (%)=particle amount remaining on the sieve/10×100. |
