PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of determining and storing a tile of a pixel or sample.SOLUTION: A texture and fragment processing unit 42 are coupled to a texture cache 46. The cache 46 is coupled to a memory partition 60 through a texture decompression module 54. A depth compare and blend unit 44 are coupled to a depth buffer cache 48, a color buffer cache 50 and a tile table cache 52. The depth buffer cache 48 is coupled to the memory partition 60 through a depth buffer coder/decoder (codec) 56. Likewise, the color buffer cache 50 couples the memory partition 60 through a color buffer coder/decoder (codec) 58. The memory partition 60 is coupled to dynamic random access memory (DRAM) 62, 64, 66 and 68 which may be part of system memory. |
