The present invention relates to an apparatus for providing a social network service using a digital television. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for providing a social network service comprises: a signal separating unit for separating a signal related to a user from an external signal inputted to a digital television; and a service providing unit for determining the type of a service to be provided to the user and one or more other users according to a user request, and providing the service using the user related signal separated according to the determined service type.
