<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for obtaining a channel estimate with good resolution based on a narrowband pilot with small system overhead.SOLUTION: In a block 412, a received OFDM symbol is obtained from a communication channel and, for a narrowband pilot, a partial frequency response estimate is obtained for a subset of subbands. In a block 414, spectral estimation is performed to determine one or more frequency components of the frequency response estimate. In a block 416, a determination whether to terminate the spectral estimation is made based on various criteria dependent on the spectral estimation technique used. If the spectral estimation is to be terminated, then in a block 418 a channel estimate is obtained based on the frequency components determined by the spectral estimation.</p> |
