Enhancement in Diagnostic Ultrasound Spectral Doppler Imaging

Spectral Doppler imaging is enhanced. The boundary between noise and signal is determined in each spectrum. The boundary is used to differentiate noise from signal. The noise level is reduced and/or the signal level is increased in the respective regions of the spectrum, providing more distinguishable regions.

1. A method for enhancing spectral Doppler imaging, the method comprising:
estimating a spectrum for a Doppler gate location; detecting a boundary between a noise region and a signal region of the spectrum; altering, by a processor, the noise region, the signal region, or the noise and signal region of the spectrum, the altering being a function of the boundary; and displaying an image, the image being a function of the altered spectrum.
