Wireless communication devices are provided with direct video and audio streaming capability. The streaming capability may support overlays, and seek functionality. Some implementations include incorporation of these features into devices with a mirroring display mode such as Miracast.

1. A method of displaying display content that is wirelessly received from a source device without passing through an intermediary device, comprising:
wirelessly receiving a first set of display data packets for a first overlay portion of an image frame encoded utilizing a first video compression format directly from the source device; wirelessly receiving at least a second set of display data packets for a second overlay portion of the image frame encoded utilizing a second video compression format directly from the source device; wirelessly receiving overlay blending information directly from the source device; extracting at least the first overlay portion of the image frame from the first set of display data packets and the second overlay portion of the image frame from the second set of display data packets; and blending at least the first overlay portion and the second overlay portion for display based at least in part on the overlay blending information received from the source device.
