A lens barrel characterized by the provision of the following: imaging optics that contain a focusing lens; a drive unit that drives said focusing lens in the direction of the optical axis of the lens barrel; a transmission/reception unit that transmits and receives signals to and from a camera body; and a control unit that controls said transmission/reception unit so as to repeatedly transmit a first image-plane movement coefficient and a second image-plane movement to the camera body at prescribed intervals, said first image-plane movement coefficient being defined so as to correspond to the position of the focusing lens in the imaging optics and said second image-plane movement being independent of the position of the focusing lens. This lens barrel is further characterized in that the control unit varies the second image-plane movement coefficient with time as said second image-plane movement coefficient is being repeatedly transmitted to the camera body.
