发明名称 Improvements in the process of, and apparatus for, producing moulds for casting bars of type for printing
摘要 436,849. Making type-bars; typewriters &c. SCHNEIDER, J., 8A, Briennerstrasse, Munich, Germany. May 21, 1935, No. 14830. [Classes 100 (iii) and 100 (iv)] Type-wheel machines for embossing and perforating metal, paper, etc.; aligning for impression; caseshift mechanism; hammerimpression arrangements. -In. the production of a matrix - strip which, as described in Specification 374,658, is rendered extensible for justification by means of folds between the words, the characters are successively embossed in a strip moving step-wise, and holes for controlling the folding operation are punched concurrently. At the end of each line, two punching operations may be performed to form a slot for use in controlling subsequent extension of the matrix-strip. The machine shown in Fig. 1 for carrying out the process comprises a drum 2 provided with two circumferential rows of radially-movable dies 3, 4 for embossing characters in a metal matrix-strip 8 which is fed under the drum. A proof-taking strip 63 of cardboard or the like may be fed with the matrix-strip. The row of dies 3 is associated with U-shaped radially-movable punches 6, 7 for making a pair of perforations 9, and a slot 10 respectively in the matrix-strip, the punch 7 being operated twice to make the slot. Similar punches, not shown, are associated with the row of dies 4. The drum is secured to a sleeve 20 which is feathered on a shaft 1 and is moved axially by means of a slide 23 to bring either row of dies into position. Toothed discs 11, 12 secured to the drum co-operate with an aligning-tooth 13 on a cam-controlled arm 15 secured to a shaft 14. The shaft 1 is connected by a friction-coupling 27 to a loose worm-wheel 26 which is driven continuously by a worm 25. The shaft is geared to a shaft 30 provided with a stop-arm 31 co-operating with stop-pins 32 operated by key-levers 34. A hammer 59 for operating the dies and punches is pivoted on a shaft 58 and co-operates with a cam 55 on a shaft 53 provided with a loose worm-wheel 54 engaging the worm 25. A sleeve 50 on the shaft 53 carries a spring-urged plunger 49 which is normally prevented from engaging holes 56 in the worm-wheel by engagement of a pin 48 on the plunger with a notch 47, Fig. 2, in a rocking arm 45. A rocking arm 43 connected to the arm 45 abuts on a plunger 41 which is mounted in the shaft 30 and rests on the inclined end 40 of a spring-urged plunger 39 mounted in the stop-arm 31 and having a head 37 which projects into a groove 35 in the stoparm. On depression of any of the key-levers, the corresponding stop-pin 32 is raised, the head 40 rides over the stop-pin, and the stop-arm is arrested by contact of the end of the groove 35 with the stop-pin. Thereupon, the drum is arrested with the selected die or punch in operative position, the aligning-tooth 13 engages the disc 11 or 12, and the hammer strikes the die or punch. Specification 2770/01, [Class 100], is referred to. Letter-spacing mechanism.-The matrix-strip 8, Fig. 1, is letter-spaced after each impression by means of feed-rollers 18, 19, a pinion 17 on the roller 18 co-operating with a sector 16 which has one-way connection with the arm 15 carrying the aligning-tooth 13. To provide for variable spacing, the depth of the teeth on the discs 11, 12 corresponds to the width of the associated dies in the rows 3, 4 respectively.
