<p>437,422. Variable speed gearing. TOPE, E. R., Exeter Road Garage, Kingsteignton, Devon. April 8, 1935, No. 10854. [Class 80 (ii)] Relates to a pre-selector device for the gears of motor road vehicles of the type in which a selector lever mounted on the steering wheel is adapted to set a gear-control member through a Bowden wire or the like, gearchanging being then effected by a pedal, such as the clutch pedal. According to the invention, levers 1, 2, 3, r are pivoted on a rectilineally-moving draw-bar b, each lever being adapted to co-operate with a flat or cam surface on a shaft e rotated from the preselector lever by the Bowden wire f. In the form shown, the four latches 1, 2, 3, r are adapted to be dropped into engagement with one end of one of the striker-bars h, h<1> pivoted to the frame a at j. The levers h, h<1> are formed with heads l which engage the selector bars of the gear. Each latch is formed with a notch 1<a> to engage a striker-bar.</p> |
