PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device that can project images with high resolution and high luminance by using space division, and an adaptor used for the projection type display device.SOLUTION: A projection type display device includes: an image display element 1 that includes a first image display area for displaying a first image and a second image display area provided at a position different from that of the first image display area for displaying a second image, and modulates incident light according to an input signal; a relay lens 2 that forms the light having passed through the image display element into an image; an optical characteristic conversion element 3A arranged at a position conjugated with the image display element by relay lens and that makes optical characteristics of the light having passed through the first image display area of the image display element different from the optical characteristics of the light having passed through the second image display area; and a projection lens 4 that projects, on a projection surface, the light having passed through the first image display area and the light having passed through the second image display area, which have passed through the optical characteristic conversion element. |
