The invention comprising a design of, and choice of material, for the shaft body and the balloon envelope, and by the positioning of the balloon body on the shaft body, wherein the axial deflection of the free forward end of the shaft body is limited and an uncontrolled deflection of the shaft is prevented, and the probability of perforation of the bowel wall under the effect of force acting on the shaft body from an axial direction is reduced by the intestinal tube.

A device for transanal drainage of stool from the rectum of a patient, and/or for the transanal administration of inflowing fluid through a catheter-like element, the device comprising an inflatable balloon produced from a thin-walled soft film material of limited elastic deformability and preformed during production with a waisted shape, having two terminal balloon sections with a larger tubular radius and, disposed therebetween, and tapered relative thereto, a middle balloon section provided with a reduced tubular radius and is placed transanally, such that the distally adjoining radially enlarged balloon section is placed intrarectally and the proximally adjoining radially enlarged balloon section extracorporeally, wherein two balloon ends taper, and are fixed at an axial distance from each other, on a jacket surface of a catheter shaft, wherein in the force-free state an intrarectal balloon section surrounds a distal region of the catheter shaft and is dimensioned such that in the presence of an axial deflection of the catheter shaft toward the bowel, all attendant deformation of the balloon surrounding a shaft end operates to generate an oppositely acting force that damps and/or limits the movement of a distal end of the catheter shaft in a distal direction, such that the distal end cannot emerge, in a manner potentially traumatizing to the bowel, from the distal or intrarectal balloon enlargement surrounding the shaft end, wherein a distal tip of the catheter shaft, in its non-deflected, resting state, comes to lie completely proximally of a plane that is intersected perpendicularly by an axis of symmetry, and that is fully tangent distally to the intrarectal balloon section.
