Provided are a method and device for calculating a paging opportunity under an extended paging cycle. The method comprises: a user equipment (UE) using the formula SFN mod T = (T div N) * (UE_ID extended mod N) to calculate a frame number (SFN) where a paging message appears; the UE using the formula i_s = floor(UE_ID extended /N)mod Ns to calculate a subframe number i_s where the paging message appears; and the UE using the frame number and the subframe number where the paging message appears to determine the paging opportunity of the UE under the extended paging cycle, where T is a paging cycle of the UE, and T is equal to a specific discontinuous reception (DRX) value of the UE;UE_ID extended = IMSI mod(1024·2n), UE_ID extended is an identity identifier index of the UE, IMSI is an international mobile subscriber identity of the UE, n is a bit number of an extended SFN, N = min(T, nB), Ns = max(1, nB/T) and n&Bgr; ∊ {4&Tgr;, 2&Tgr;, &Tgr;, &Tgr;/2, &Tgr;/4, &Tgr;/8, &Tgr;/16, &Tgr;/32}. By means of the method and the device in the embodiments of the present invention, a good solution is provided for calculating the paging opportunity under the extended paging cycle.
