[Class 68 (ii)] A basin dry dock is formed by excavating the site and making a continuous slab - like bottom on or around which the side walls are reared. The bottom is made by placing in position moulds having reinforcing members and by filling the moulds and the spaces between them with concrete. The moulds also may carry supports for vertical piling sheets for the walls. In the form shown in Fig. 2 the moulds comprise trusses 7, vertical and diagonal struts 8, 9 and steel plates 4 having vertical corrugations, together with extended corrugated end plates 6. The sheet piling 16 is suspended from A frames 12. In the form shown in Fig. 10 an additional plate 46 shaped as shown is provided adjacent each end so that when the walls are erected a wedging action occurs between the bottom B and the walls. |
