PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To address the need to customize or adjust local flexibility of a golf club face for providing maximized COR (Coefficient Of Restitution) in the areas of the face where off-center hits tend to occur most, without exceeding current COR limitations.SOLUTION: A ball striking device, such as a golf club head, has a head that includes a face configured for striking a ball and a body connected to the face, the body being adapted for connection of a shaft proximate a heel thereof. The face may include one or more stiffening elements or other structures, in an inner surface of the face, to provide locally increased stiffness to particular areas of the face. The particular stiffening element provides stiffness larger than those of other stiffening members such that the face is configured for an area with maximum rigidity and maximum COR adjusted accommodating to a general impact pattern. |
