A method and a system is disclosed for cleaning the interior of a storage tank (10), particularly for removing residue from a medium previously stored in the tank, according to which the inside wall of the storage tank is washed by means of washing liquid which is sprayed onto the wall under high pressure from at least one nozzle (15) arranged rotatable in the storage tank. The method is characterized in that steamed water is introduced in the storage tank for heat the tank wall and residue adhering to the tank wall, such that the steam can condensate on the tank wall to run off from the wall for accumulation on the tank floor together with washing liquid and heated residue, where after the heated residue, washing liquid and condensate water is fed out to a mobile buffering tank (2) from which washing liquid is recycled to the rotatable nozzle (15) via heated heat exchanger (4). |
