A method for operating a condensed natural gas engine, comprising injecting a mass of additive into the engine, the mass of additive a function of a mass-of-soot desired and producing a mass-of-soot during combustion, mass-of-soot produced a function of the mass of additive injected into the engine. By this method additional soot may be produced for heightened lubrication and valve protection.

a natural gas tank coupled to an engine cylinder; an additive delivery apparatus coupled to the engine cylinder; an additive tank with an additive located therein coupled to the additive delivery apparatus; and a control system with instructions to deliver an increased amount of a solution with the additive in response to a request for a desired increased soot amount.
