Multiple chutes 4 each lead to a different bin 26; each of the bins includes a sensor 44 to detect the amount of waste therein. The sensor could display information (50, fig 2) to the user or prevent further waste being passed through the chute when the bin is full. Ideally the chutes extend from a kitchen 14 through a wall 6 to a bin housing 34 outside 16. Preferably the chutes are inclined tubes. The chutes could be biased closed by covers (32, fig 2) when not in use. There may be indication symbols and/or colours on the bins, outside ends 220 and/or inside ends 18 of the chutes. The sensors could detect mass, volume, and/or level of waste in each bin; such as by breaking of a light beam. The display 50 may comprise at least one light for each receptacle. The housing may have doors 38. The bins could be rectangular and may lock together. |
