A self-opening and self-closing slide assembly includes a first rail (10), a second rail (14), a third rail (18), a movable unit (50), a hooking member (148) and a contact member (152). The movable unit (50) is installed to the first rail (10) and includes a movable member (66), a first resilient member (62) and a second resilient member (68). The second rail (14) is installed between the first and third rails (10, 18). The hooking member (148) and the contact member (152) are connected to the third rail (18). When the third rail (18) is pushed, the hooking member (148) is disengaged from the movable member (66). The second rail (14) extends relative to the first rail (10) by the force from the first resilient member (62). When the third rail (18) is retracted relative to the first rail (10), the hooking member (148) is connected to the movable member (66) and the second resilient member (68) applies a force the movable member (66) to retract the third rail (18) relative to the first rail (10).
