[Class 6 (i)] Overlapping discs 34 rotating about vertical axes are used to feed potatoes, taken by hand from a hopper 30 and placed in peripheral apertures 42 in the discs, to delivery shoots 54. The hopper is of cup and saucer formation, with a slide controlling the opening into the saucer from which the sets are transferred' by hand. The discs 34 are driven from the axle 58 of the ground-wheels 57 through change-speed gearing 59, 62, a countershaft 60, clutch 63, chain-andsprocket gearing 68, 71, a horizontal shaft 39 and bevel gearing 37 at each end of it. Beneath the discs are segmental plates 43, retaining the potatoes until they reach the discharge position. The disc apertures may be fitted with pivoted shutters released as they pass beyond the range of the plates 43, the ends of which are curved to facilitate movement of the shutters. The disc axles may be mounted in slides movable by screw-and-nut gearing in the frame 10 for adjusting the distance apart of the discs. The delivery shoots are preceded by drill openers 26 and closers 95 mounted on auxiliary frames 19, 80 pivoted to brackets 18 on the mainframe; the frame 19 being supported in front by springs 25. Working depth is varied by a lever on a shaft 83 connected by linkages 93, 94 and 81, 82 to the frames 19, 80. Fertilizer from a hopper 72 is delivered through a shoot 79. A slide 73 controls the opening from the hopper and is connected by a slotted linkage 89, 89a to the shaft 83, whereby the slide 73 may be closed when the drill openers and closers are lifted from working position for transport. Operator's seats and footboards 48, 49 are mounted at each side of the machine, the supports being pivoted to permit folding when not in use. |
