<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patterned retardation film, which can be mass-produced by an inexpensive and simple method and is excellent in practical use. <P>SOLUTION: A patterned retardation film comprises: a transparent film substrate; an alignment layer having a thick film region with large thickness and a thin film region with a thickness smaller than that of the thick film region formed on the transparent film substrate, in which the thick film region and the thin film region are formed in a patterned state; and a retardation layer formed on the surface of the alignment layer, which contains a rod-like compound having refractive index anisotropy. The thick film region and the thin film region have a fine uneven pattern formed on the surfaces thereof so as to arrange the rod-like compound in the same direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
