The illumination device has a support plate having several through-holes (14) in which 'LED dots' (18), i.e. elements comprising a water-and dust-proof transparent plastic material housing an LED, especially a three-colour (RGB) LED, are fitted. The LED dots are inserted into cut-outs (38) in a mounting bracket (30) made of aluminum or aluminum alloy, above the through-holes in the support plate so that their light-emitting surface fits into the through-hole and can be seen from the exterior. The profile of the LED dots resembles an 'inverted hat' with an elliptical brim whose protrusions act as a latch to retain the dot in position against the mounting bracket when rotated through 90[deg]. |
