Embodiments of an isolator (16, 50) are provided, as are embodiments of a spacecraft isolation system (10) employing a number of three parameter isolators. In one embodiment, the isolator includes a main spring (66), a secondary spring (68) coupled in parallel with the main spring, and a damper assembly (70) coupled in parallel with the main spring and in series with the secondary spring. The damper assembly includes a damper housing (80) containing opposing hydraulic chambers (92, 94) fillable with a damping fluid. A damper piston (86) is movably mounted within the damper housing for translational movement along a working axis (78). The damper piston is exposed to the damping fluid in the opposing hydraulic chambers when the opposing hydraulic chambers are filled therewith. A variable annulus (96) fluidly couples the opposing hydraulic chambers and has a cross-sectional flow area that varies as a function of damper piston stroke. |
