<p>Process for the production of packaging material having a high amount of recycled expanded polystyrene (REPS) and the packaging material produced by the process. The process comprising the following steps: (a) arranging in a mould a pre-packaging material comprising a first fraction comprising expanded and/or virgin polystyrene (EPS or VPS) and a second fraction comprising REPS, the mould comprising means operable to apply compression to the material; (b) applying a vacuum to the material within the mould; (c) applying steam to the material within the mould up to a pressure of below 0 bar; (d) applying steam to the pre-packaging material within the mould to a pressure of above 0 bar; (e) decompressing the material. Wherein the pre-packaging material is compressed along at least one dimension within the mould during the moulding process, wherein the compression along the dimension is at least 5 mm. The process may comprise a further vacuum step after step (e). The REPS fraction may be of a different colour to the material of the first fraction.</p> |
