Methods and devices for reproducing surround audio signals

Method and devices for providing surround audio signals are provided. Surround audio signals are received and are binaurally filtered by at least one filter unit. In some embodiments, the input surround audio signals are also processed by at least one equalizing unit. In those embodiments, the binaurally filtered signals and the equalized signals are combined to form output signals.

1. A method for providing surround audio signals, comprising the steps of:
receiving input surround audio signals, the input surround audio signals including a plurality of source input channels; binaurally filtering the input surround audio signals by at least one filter unit to produce binaurally filtered signals, wherein the at least one filter unit includes a feedback delay network including a plurality of tap-outs, wherein the feedback delay network includes a mixing matrix having a plurality of mixing matrix input channels, and wherein the plurality of the source input channels is coupled to the mixing matrix input channels; processing the input surround audio signals by the feedback delay network; performing a binaural equalizing processing on the input surround audio signals by at least one equalization unit to produce equalized signals; and combining the binaurally filtered signals and the equalized signals as output signals.
