A nonlinear feedback shift register for creating a signature for cryptographic applications, comprising: a sequence of series-connected flip-flops connected to each other in a manner such that the sequence of series-connected flip-flops is configured to form at least one polynomial with the aid of at least one signal feedback having at least one operator, wherein the flip-flops are connected to at least one switching operator in order to form at least two different polynomials, the switching operator configured to switch between the at least two different polynomials as a function of an input signal that is to-be shifted by the nonlinear feedback shift register, wherein the nonlinear feedback shift register is configured such that the input signal is additionally antivalently coupled into the nonlinear feedback shift register by logically combining the input signal with an existing value stored in the nonlinear feedback shift register, using an XOR operation.
