A device for performing fluidic operations, the device comprising: a fluidic chamber having a plurality of pairs of ports, a first port of each pair being located on a first side of the fluidic chamber and a second port of each pair being located on a second side of the fluidic chamber, each second port being opposite a respective first port; a plurality of reservoirs adapted to be fluidly connected with the fluidic chamber at each of the plurality of pairs of ports, the plurality of reservoirs configured to flow fluid from a first reservoir on the first side of the fluidic chamber through each of the first port and at least one of the second ports of the plurality of pairs of ports to a second reservoir on the second side of the fluidic chamber, or vice versa, wherein each reservoir of the plurality of reservoirs comprises a fluidic pressuring mechanism adapted to facilitate a movement of the fluid between the first reservoir and the second reservoir through the fluidic chamber, and vice versa; and a structure slidably moveable within the fluidic chamber, the slidably moveable structure comprising: one or more openings through the structure and adapted to be aligned by a sliding of the structure within the fluidic chamber with at least one pair of the plurality of pairs of ports to allow fluidic connection between one or more reservoirs on the first side and respective one or more reservoirs on the second side, the one or more openings being moveably alignable with a desired pair of ports by the sliding of the structure to allow the movement of the fluid between the first reservoir, via the one or more openings therein through the slidably moveable structure, and the second reservoir, and vice versa; andat least one interaction element disposed within at least one of the openings and operable for interacting with the fluid therein, the at least one interaction element comprising a functional element, which is located in a flow path of the fluid through the at least one of the openings when the fluid flows through the fluidic chamber, the functional element comprising one or more of a DNA binding matrix or a lysis structure.
