A printing apparatus according to the present invention comprises a carriage configured to mount a printhead and reciprocate, a driving unit configured to move the carriage, the driving unit including a motor as a driving source, a measurement unit configured to measure a velocity fluctuation of the carriage, a correction unit configured to correct driving of the motor by correction data to reduce a velocity fluctuation of the carriage arising from cogging of the motor, and a setting unit configured to set a parameter which defines a periodic fluctuation manner of the correction data. The setting unit determines a current preferable value of the parameter based on the velocity fluctuation measured by the measurement unit for a current set value of the parameter, and sets a next set value of the parameter from the determined preferable value.

1. A control method of a printing apparatus including a carriage mounting a printhead and a motor as a driving source for moving the carriage, the control method comprising:
controlling driving of the motor to reciprocate the carriage in a print processing; measuring a velocity fluctuation of the carriage; correcting driving of the motor by correction data to reduce a velocity fluctuation of the carriage arising from cogging of the motor; and updating a parameter which defines a periodic fluctuation manner of the correction data in the print processing, wherein the updating the parameter in the print processing comprises determining a current preferable value of the parameter based on the measured velocity fluctuation regarding a current set value of the parameter, and setting a next set value of the parameter for a next movement of the carriage from the determined preferable value.
