A method of inducing apoptosis in a tumor cell, the method comprising contacting a pancreatic tumor cell with a composition comprising at least one nucleic acid attached to a nanoparticle, wherein the at least one nucleic acid is a nucleic acid encoding UGT2B15, and the nanoparticle is selected from the group consisting of a carbon nanotube, carbon nanorod, and carbon nanosphere, such that the nucleic acid is expressed within the tumor cell and induces apoptosis.
