发明名称 Improvements in or relating to thermal motors
摘要 446,174. Motors operated by variation of atmospheric temperature ; clocks. REUTTER, J. L., 9, Rue du Sommerard, Paris. Oct. 22, 1934, No. 30234. [Class 10] [See also Group XVIII] A thermal motor for winding clocks and the like operates by virtue of the variations in the difference of the pressures of two different fluids which are simultaneously subjected to natural atmospheric or to artificial variations in the temperature. The two fluids may consist of a gas or gaseous mixture and a saturated vapour, or mixture of vapours, or of a saturated vapour and a mixture of saturated vapours, or of two different mixtures of saturated vapours ; one of the gases may be produced by a chemical dissociation the degree of which varies with the temperature, such as that of silver anunonium chloride. The two fluids may be under high pressure, as in the case of ammonia vapour, nitrous oxide, or carbonic acid. The motor shown comprises an outer cylindrical casing 1 mounted to rotate in bearings 2, 3 and containing an expansible chamber 5 which is filled, for instance, with a saturated vapour whilst the space around it in the casing 1 is filled, for instance, with a gas. When, owing to temperature changes, the wall 6 of the chamber 5 moves it carries with it a steeppitch screw 16 engaging a nut 15 secured to an arm 11 pivoted on a shaft 9 and carrying a weight 12. The arm 11 is thus rotated and the weight 12 raised, which produces a couple causing rotation of the casing 1. Ratchets 13, 19 respectively on the shaft 10 of the arm 11 and on the screw 16 are engaged by pawls 14, 20 on the wall of the casing and the wall 6 of the chamber 5, and result in the casing being rotated unidirectionally by the movements in one direction only of the wall 6. The mechanism may, however, be arranged to give unidirectional rotation to the casing from the movements in both directions of the wall 6, or the ratchets may be omitted so that oscillating movement is imparted to the casing. The construction described avoids the necessity of moving parts extending through the casing 1 to transmit the energy. In modifications, the arm 11 is rotated from the moving wall 6 through wires passing round a drum, or through rack-and-pinion gearing. The weight 12 may be of magnetic material and subjected to the attraction of a magnet outside the casing 1, which in this case is of non-magnetic material and may rotate on an axis other than horizontal.
