PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely efficient method for selectively modifying a protein with a water-soluble polymer derivative.SOLUTION: The provided water-soluble compound includes an azide or acetylene segment as at least one terminal of a water-soluble compound selected from among poly(alkylene oxides), poly(oxyethylated polyols), and poly(olefin alcohols). The same, furthermore, may be provided by selectively integrating, with a protein in correspondence to a selector codon, a non-genetically coded amino acid (e.g., amino acid including an azide segment or acetylene segment) or by successively modifying these amino acids with properly reactive PEG derivatives. |
