PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide soluble neuropilin (sNP) proteins, and cDNAs encoding the proteins.SOLUTION: The invention provides an isolated soluble neuropilins, NP-1 and NP-2, which specifically bind VEGF, which is one of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) isoforms, and reduce VEGF-mediated HUVEC proliferation. The invention also provides polynucleotides encoding sNPs, vectors containing the nucleotides, and host cells containing the vectors. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions for VEGF-related diseases containing the sNPs.
