PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lacrimal implant insertable through a lacrimal punctum and a method of manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a lacrimal implant insertable into a lacrimal punctum comprises: forming an implant body 302 including a retention structure 308, which includes forming a fluid permeable retainer through a portion of the retention structure 308; and substantially encapsulating a hydrogel retention element 316 using the retention structure 308, the hydrogel retention element 316 being configured to expand when the retention structure 308 is in a lacrimal canaliculus. Forming the fluid permeable retainer forms a structure which allows fluid permeation into the retention structure 308, and which further inhibits the hydrogel retention element 316 during expansion from protruding out of the retention structure 308. |
