PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for efficiently managing distribution of content to a device.SOLUTION: The system comprises: a database for storing elements, which represent the device, as a hierarchical structure to associate content identifiers with the elements in the hierarchical structure; and a server for referencing the hierarchical structure in the database to generate a profile for the device, the profile containing a number of content identifiers indicating content to be provided to the device. A device manager associated with the device is configured to: use the content identifiers in the profile received from the server to provide the device with the content indicated by the profile; keep a record identifying the content provided to the device in accordance with the profile; upon receipt of a subsequent profile from the server, compare the content identifiers in the subsequent profile with the record to determine new content not yet provided to the device and old content no longer to be provided to the device; and use the content identifiers to provide the new content to the device and to remove the old content. |
