1. A method of treating or preventing a viral infection in a mammal comprising administering a composition comprising:
(a) a pharmaceutically acceptable grade of squalamine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or derivative thereof in an amount sufficient to produce an antiviral effect, and (b) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
