PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-carrier optical transmitter that uses an individual CW light source for each sub channel and controls frequency spacing between subcarriers.SOLUTION: The multi-carrier optical transmitter includes: N transmission CW light sources; means for outputting N monitor light beams from N output light beams; means for detecting frequency spacing between the N output light beams by the use of the N monitor light beams and outputting frequency spacing information; means for shifting frequencies of complex field signals generated on the basis of a transmission data signal for data modulation by a difference of a predetermined frequency spacing from each frequency spacing to output N driving signals; means for modulating and shifting frequencies of the N output light beams on the basis of the N driving signals to output such N sub channel signals as have the predetermined frequency spacing; and means for combining the N sub channel signals to transmit a multi-carrier signal.
