PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy control unit for maintaining energy level of a hybrid electric vehicle within desired magnitude.SOLUTION: A control unit comprises respective estimators on the basis of the fact that energy level of a hybrid vehicle is a function of at least following quantities: (i) the mechanical kinetic energy of the hybrid vehicle; (ii) the mechanical potential energy of the hybrid vehicle; and (iii) the potential energy of an energy storage unit.
